Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue?

Louisiana is an awesome place. We have the best food and music of any of the 50 states. I've lived here almost all my entire life and been proud to call it home...until recently.

I grew upin the glory days of the Democrats (although they were mostly "boll weevils" in those days). But, a funny thing happened, starting in the '80s. We got our first Republican governor, then (ugh) a former Klansman running for governor. Legislators elected as Democrats changed parties. The culture wars filtered down South, and our spicy gumbo way of life has been watered down and poisoned by totally uncool fundamentalist and reactionary ideas and people.

I'm not sure I want to stay here anymore. New Orleans and Acadiana will always be great places to visit, but this ain't as great a place to live as it used to be.

We have idiots in the legislature competing to be the most reactionary--modeling themselves after the embarrassing governor a/k/a Kenneth the Page. It's a race to the bottom, and I'm not sure I want to be here to see how it ends.
